HOW OUR BUTTERFLY TRIPS WORK
SEEING BUTTERFLIES LIKE NEVER BEFORE
Trips are always fun and exciting, even if it’s just a weekend getaway to a neighboring town. However, when you’re going on a butterfly tour, there are some things you should know and things you should bring so that you’re prepared.
Fauna Ventures offers butterfly tours in various locations throughout the year, including Texas, Honduras, and Colombia. Our mission is to help understand the world’s biodiversity and help protect these habitats. Our tour guides are expert lepidopterists (butterfly gurus) who are eager to show you these amazing and beautiful insects in our world. You’ll see hundreds of butterflies and be truly dazzled. Join us on an upcoming butterfly tour today!

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN PRICE
One of our most frequently asked questions is what is included in the price of our butterfly tours? Accommodations, breakfast and lunch, in-country transportation, and butterfly tour guide prices are included. If we visit any parks, those fees are included. Soft drinks and water are included on some tours. These are easy to standardize, which is why they are included. Other costs vary so much that it’s easier just to have you pay as you go rather than have them lumped together. We want to make our butterfly tours affordable for everyone, which is why we only include items once you arrive at your destination.
WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN PRICE
For our butterfly tours, you’ll need to purchase your own airfare, any alcoholic beverages you wish to enjoy, and any other personal items, including souvenirs. Airfare varies so much based on the season and where you are flying from that we are unable to offer that as part of the package. Dinner can vary between tours, so please make sure you read all details before booking. If dinner is not included, this is your time to go to any local restaurant or food place of your choosing and experience some of the local culture while on our butterfly tour. We encourage you to take advantage of your free time and explore the area around you.
WHAT TO BRING
Another popular question Fauna Ventures receives is what to pack. We always recommend a good pair of close-focusing binoculars. This is because it’s not always possible to get up close to all of the butterfly species before they fly off and because butterflies are so small, binoculars can really make seeing them so much easier and clearer. You’ll want to bring your camera, of course, to photograph all the lovely butterflies and other sites you see. Sunscreen is a necessity, as well as a hat to shield your face. We’ll be walking a lot on most days, so comfortable clothing and shoes are a must. Depending on the location, it’s always prudent to bring rain gear, especially if you are headed to a rainforest. Although we provide soda and water on some trips, a reusable water bottle is recommended as well that’s easy for you to transport.
HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS
In today’s world, travel restrictions can change at a moment’s notice. It’s essential that you travel when you feel well and have not been exposed to any viruses, such as COVID-19. In addition, it’s always best to have a physical exam by your doctor if you think you may not be able to handle the stress of flying or the physical activity of walking and being on your feet for a certain period of time. Some travel destinations may have vaccination requirements, so be sure to visit your destination’s travel page, so that you are prepared.
MISCELLANEOUS
Please call directly with specific questions about how our trips work, including cancellation policy refunds. We do offer refunds if you cancel a butterfly tour, but the amount of the refund changes based on how many days notice you give us. If you are traveling outside the country, don’t forget to bring your passport. The weather can impact the number of butterflies that you see. In this case, we’ll focus more on birds on those days when butterfly viewing is difficult. We are always here to answer any questions you may have. Reach out to our team, and we can’t wait to go on a Fauna Ventures with you!
